Justice Minister, Mr. Sompong Amornwiwat, presided over the Grand Openning ceremony of Prisoners' art gallery where he was welcomed by Mr. Wanchai Roujanavong, Director General of Department of Corrections. Special guests for the Grand Openning were Permanent Secretary of Justice Ministry, Dr. Kittipong Kittayarak; Deputy Permanent Secretary of Justice Ministry Mr. Thongthong Chandarangsu; Ambassador of Netherlands to Thailand, HE. Mr. Pieter J. Th. Marres; Consul of Nigeria to Thailand Mr. Henry O Offor; First Secretary of Embassy of India, Mr. Vijay Kumar Malhotka and representatives from British and Australian Embassy.

2 June 2008
During 2-6 June 2008, Department of Corrections and Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly organised a training programme on prison administration for senior officials from Cambodia Department of Prison. The Cambodian delegates led by Mr. Heng Hak, Director General paid a courtesy call on Mr. Wanchai Roujanavong, Director General of Thai DoC on the first day of the training programme.

Mr. Sompong Amornwiwat, Justice Minister, made his first policy statement at DoC headquarters before undertaking his first institutional visit at Bang Kwang Central Prison.

Department of Corrections organized a seminar on 'the Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Development Programme: a Restorative Justice Approach to create harmony in prison settings'.  The seminar is aimed to promote better standing about EQ and Restorative Justice as well as seek way of bringing EQ development strategies to promote peace and prison order.

A jailbird flew high yesterday (3 April 2007) when convicted prisoners Siriporn Thaveesuk, aka Somson Sor Siriporn, emerged victorious on points to clinch the WBC female light - flyweight crown.


Young Talent Challenging Day
Thai Department of Corrections successfully organised 'Young Talent Challenging Day', a competition for 11 teams of 24 'young blood' officers.
